More photos from first full week

Here are a few more photos from our first week together!
These are our David's from the very first day of school!

Our lovely bulletin board that Ms. Schiffer put together!!
I love it!!
We learned about several of our literacy stations, including how to use play-doh to make letters and words.

We learned how to use and put away the stamps (used in writing and ABC stations).

We read several books about school and created these charts to go along.  I just got The Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books from Scholastic!!

This is our How We Get Home graph..

In Math, we practice sorting by color, shape, and size.

Here is our Potato Head Pirate finally all put together!!  Each time our whole class gets a compliment we earn a part to complete him.  When he is complete we earn a class reward!!

We learned how to use the glue bottles (and a little song about using only a dab of glue).  We practiced by creating these rainbow names.  We traced each letter in our name with glue and covered them with torn pieces of construction paper.
Here are our bus snacks from last Friday!  The kids had such a great time putting their own frosting on the cookie and following the "recipe".

It is my goal to get better at taking and posting photos on a routine basis.  I promise to get there!  We are having so much fun!

We made it!

Well we made it through our first week of kindergarten!!! I am so excited to have such a wonderful group of boys and girls!

We spent most of our time last week working on our routines for carpet time, lunch, table work, recess, packing up, walking in the hall, and pretty much every other part of the day. :-) We made a chart to show how we listen with more than just our ears.

We read the story David Goes To School about a loveable, but mischevious little boy named David.  He seemed to always be getting into trouble.  We had to hunt for him around school to make sure he was not wreaking too much havoc.

We made David's when we returned to the classroom after our tour.
We got to take a bus ride around the parking lot which we all thought was a blast! We practiced emergency exit procedures on Thursday.

  Lunchtime!!!

I will have lots more to post soon!!!

Finally ready!

Here are pictures of our Pirate Classroom!! I will be posting photos from our first week soon!!!

This will be our birthday board.  I plan to add photos of the kids above each month of their birthday.
This is our calendar!  Love the weather chart I found on pinterest!!!
Here is our computer center.  We plan to dispaly Treasure Work on this bulletin board!
This is the view of the front of our classroom (standing in back).  Here is Math and Science!

I love our reading "island".  You can't read the quote, but it is from Walt Disney.  It says "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island."  Perfect!!

Our Pirate Rules and Classroom Jobs.  The rules were from TpT (I will find the correct source) and I made the jobs.  :-)

This is our Station board/Pirate Ship.  It was inspired by the one in Deanna Jump's classroom.  Love it!!!

Word wall and Listening Center.  I ran out of white thread (for outline on word wall) and bought the wrong size, so it is not complete yet.  So excited about the way I set up listening this year.  Hopefully no more tangled headphone cords!

I am so excited about the way the room turned out!  I could not have done it without Ms. Schiffer's help!  I will post photos of our clip chart later this week.

Classroom

I wanted to post new pictures today, but I had no battery life left on my phone or camera. :-( I am hoping to take some tomorrow. I am so excited about how it is shaping up!! I found this little nugget on Pinterest and thought it was perfect as we are all getting our rooms ready for a new year.

Classroom Photos

Can't believe it is almost that time!!  I have been working in the room quite a bit lately because I am so worried that I will not get everything done!  I am making so many changes this year to how my room is set up (among other new ideas I can't wait to try).  I always end up not liking the way my room is laid out around October, so I am hoping that by putting some extra time/thought into it now I can avoid that.  I owe a lot of my inspiration to Pinterest and the tons of amazing teacher bloggers out there who share photos and ideas of how they organize and set up their own classrooms.

I am using a Pirate theme this year and focusing on the colors red, white, and black.  I am still working on some curtains to cover my shelves over my cubbies.  I do not sew, but tried learning and sewing one.  I ended up buying some Stitch Witch that allows me to just iron on a seam.  I am not a big fan of the sewing machine.  :-)  I will have more photos soon, but here are a few for now!

This is where my art/creation station will be.  I will have paper and art supplies on the back counter. I think my rules will be posted on one of the large cabinet doors and maybe vocabulary words on the other.  Not sure just yet.

Here is white board and group carpet area.

Science area.  The plastic drawers house all of my Reading A to Z books in group sets by level.

Here is my little helper photobombing my writing station photo.  :-)  Love that little guy!  He drew a map on my whiteboard to show me where to put everything.

Again carpet area.  The long black bulletin board will be the Word Wall.  The Reading Corner is behind the shelf.  My listening center will be just in front of the word wall.

Here is a close up of Word Wall/Listening.  I am thinking of adding crate seats or pillows for the kiddos to sit on.
My truffela/palm trees.  I want to turn my reading area into a "Pirate Cove". I am going to try and make an island background on the wall and maybe hang a pirate flag.  Love my banner from Hobby Lobby!

This a look at my teacher/small group area.  My binders and small group materials are on the shelf.  The red board is going to be the calendar area.  I am going to cover the side of the file cabinet to make that a data collection bulletin board.

I will be sure to add more as it gets done.  :-)  We have been super busy with home visits!  I have LOVED meeting all of my new kids and their families!!  So excited about this new year!!
